FCPX - Is there a quick way to reuse a title

Been doing a lot of small projects in FCPX, and often I use a customized credits title in the end of a project.

Currently I go into one of the old projects and do a copy, then I go back to the current project and paste it.

Is there a quicker and smarter way to do this?

You could make the title into a compound clip, which will save it into an event, from where it can be edited into any project.

Thanks. Just tried it. But what if I want the compound clip title to be a template that I can customize in the current project. As far as I can see, due to the dynamic linking that would update the title in all the other projects I use. So is there a way to paste the compund clip and "break" the dynamic link?

Not if you need to change the title. I thought this was a recurring title. If you need to change it you can use the Reference New Parent Clip function, which will make a new compound clip for each title. Copy and paste may be easier for you in the long run.

If you have to do this often:

Create a new Event and call it "Templates".
Make a CC of your custom title and save it to the Templates Event.

Every time you need the title template in a new Project just drag the CC from the Templates Event into the Event of your new Project and you will have an independent template (a new Parent Clip) that you can customize without changing any other versions in other Projects.

Do you own Motion? I barely know how to use it, but it was trivially easy to for me to make a custom slate generator and publish it to FCP X so it's always available. Seems like that would be a good way to do your credit title...

Can't sleep? Try this: fcpxpert.net ;-)

That, of course, is the best way to create custom templates. It's quite unique having a full fledged compositor to create your own effects and publish them to your NLE.

Thanks Ronny. Just tested it and it works. You just have to pay attention to the fact that the compound clip inherits the timeline preferences (1080p 25fps in my case).

So I guess you could create multiple variants of the compound clip title - 1080p 25fps - 1080p 50fps fx.

Hi Anders,

You are correct, if you are going to use your template CC in projects with different frame rates it would be best to create different versions from the start. Good thinking.
