Unable to open Compound Clip in Timeline was created by Olly King
I shot some footage on a Go Pro Hero 3 Black at 48fps, and as a result had to use the workaround of editing all the footage inside a compound clip to retain the original frame rate.
I have been working on the compound clip for a number of days, with no problems, by finding the compound clip, right clicking and selecting "Open in timeline".
However, when I opened FCPX this morning, I found the compound clip in the browser, right clicked, but the option to "Open in Timeline" is greyed out. If I preview the compound clip, it plays back fully with all my edits, but I need to be able to go back into the clip and do further editing. If I drag the clip into the timeline, then FCPX prompts me with the message "The video properties of this clip are not recognised... etc".
FCPX is basically treating my original compound clip as a single rendered file, and I want it back to edit it further!

Don't know why it won't open in the timeline, but an curious why you would shoot 48fps if you want to keep that frame rate. 48fps is great for slomo in a 24fps project. Not sure why else you would use it.

RESOLVED
OK - here's a puzzler - right-clicking on the name of the compound clip meant that I couldn't open it in the timeline. When I right-clicked on the small preview, above the list of clips in the event, the "Open in Timeline" option worked, and I was able to open the compound clip and edit as normal. Sorry for silly post - I should have tried before posting.

I don't think your post was stupid, Olly. Good that you solved the problem. But like Tom I'm curious to know why you use the 48fps if you don't want to slomo the clip? I personally try to avoid compound clips, I have the feeling they sometimes slow things down and clutter up free disk space, so I only use them when absolutely necessary. I shoot with GoPro a lot and never had to use compound clips for that. Why did you choose that route?

Not seeing that. I can right-click on the name and open in timeline.

Well, I know I'm late on replying to this; however, I experienced the same issue and ran across this thread. I tried your words of wisdom and "open in timeline" was available when I right clicked on the clip preview (Thank you very much). My clip wasn't a compound clip, but same issue with "open in timeline" being dimmed.
Though the clip wasn't compound, I had cut the first several frames and, as it turned out, that was where it must have gotten corrupted somehow. I fixed the issue by selecting the Clip Preview and then dragging the left side of the yellow preview marker back to the beginning of the clip. As one would expect, this added the cut frames back into the clip; however, I was then able to right click the "list view" name and "open in timeline" was available. After that, I cut the frames back out and everything worked normally once more.
Again, I know I'm a little late on the response; however, I replied with hopes that it would help someone else out in the future.
Kind Regards,

This is some of the stuff I'd really like to see cleaned up with this new update. I can't remember off the top of my head, but there are things I can do in filmstrip view that you can't in list view. That number ten in the name really makes you forget that this is a version one product. I really can't wait to see what changes are implemented in the update. I'm seeing a lot of great stuff in iMovie that would be really useful in FCPX. Apple sure is good at making people wait.

What can you do in Filmstrip view that you can't do in Browser view?

About the only thing is that it's often easier to skim long clips like interviews in filmstrip than in list view, where the strip at the top isn't precise enough.
