Hello,

I began to redo the video by choosing the 720p settings from the very beginning (Create a New Project), I began dropping clips and the song I'm going to use into the timeline, and already after only 50 seconds of video I notice the file size is over 404 MB. I then removed the song, to see what a difference it would make, and the video size went down to 68.2 MB - which is probably too big anyways, but I can always compress that at least.

WHY IS THE FILE SIZE SO LARGE AND WHAT CAN I DO ABOUT THIS, CAN I DO ANYTHING ABOUT THE SONG'S FILE BEING SO BIG? I even went in and chose the "scale down" option in the Inspector window and put each of the clips so far to 75% to see if that would help

Remember, the overall video will be up to 10 minutes long - although I'm trying to get it to about 5-7 minutes.

What exactly are you measuring? The CurrentVersion.fcpproject file? What are the clips you're using exactly, what format and spec?

I uploaded my video footage from my Canon AX10 to FCPX. I then chose "create a new project" and picked the settings 720p HD, 1280x720 Resolution, and 30p, and I left the Render Format at Apple ProRes 422. I then began dropping clips into time line and noticed the file size was already 440 MB after only 50 seconds, I removed the song I dropped in and noticed the file size went down to about 60 MB.

Now am at one minute and without the song it's now at 100 MB.

When I say file size, this is what it tells me the size of the file is when I click the SHARE option to transfer it to something else such as Vimeo. I have a Vimeo Pro account.

When you ask what I am measuring, well I don't know?

By the time I'm done with the 7 minute video, I will have a file that's probably going to be way too big.

720p ProRes media is a large file size. Seven minutes will be about 3.13G. You probably should compress it to H.264 on export, which should bring it down to 2.5G according to the Digital Rebellion space calculator. Video files are big. They need to be to produce good quality.

I went ahead and compressed it with HANDBREAK, and was able to get it uploaded to Vimeo Pro in just over an hour.

You can also export directly to Vimeo through FCPX in the share menu.
