It is very handy for me to export projects from FCP X and send them via large file transfer sites to my clients. This way I don't have to deal with sending DVDs via post.

But, once they have received the files, they also want to have them on DVD and that is where problem starts. They can burn DVD with the files I provided (FCP exported) - .m4v or .mov, but they are not playable on DVD players. So my question, is there a way for me to export files from FCP which afterwards can be burned on DVD for watching on DVD players?

I don't have a compressor, I just use 'share' in FCP X.

A video DVD is encoded specifically for that. It will have a VIDEO_TS and an AUDIO_TS folder (Audio_Ts will be empty), if it is standard def. High def is a much more complex animal. Just burning a video file to a blank DVD isn't going to work. If they are Mac users, Toast works great for simple encoding/burning. FCPX has a DVD option in the Share menu.

Yes, I know there is DVD burning option in the Share menu. But what I want is to give/ send people files which they can burn on DVD themselves and watch on their DVD players. I have to re-fhraze my question - how a .m4v file can be burned for DVD watching? And is it the best format I can get from FCP X for DVD burning?

Toast, as I understand, can do the job. Any other programs? What about PC users?

Use the Share's DVD option.
Set "Output Device" to "Hard Drive".

This will create the necessary folders to your hard drive, that simply need to be burned to a regular data DVD.

To send them, I'd highlight them, right-click, select "Compress "xxxx" and deliver that ZIP file. You may want to include a "Read Me.txt" file (create in Text Edit) explaining what they need to do.
