EDITING A VIDEO (EFFECTS DURING OR AFTER)

So to make this real quick because my deadline is tomorrow on this project.

I have a very simple yet complex question.

Making a music video, have a ton of abstract footage (client is overseas, not a conceptual video what so ever). Most of the footage is heavily effected. It's taking way too long to edit this thing (i'm at just 30 sec of 3:54 in almost 2 weeks now).

My question is this. Should I edit the video as is (no effects), export raw edit. Then import the single mixed down clip back into FCP and begin adding effects? It's never been made too clear anywhere on the web, at least I've never found a good tutorial on a good practice or procedure to follow on this type of thing.

Help/advice/links appreciated.

attached is what it looks like so far @ 34sec in...

You can do the raw edit, Select All, then use Option-G to create a Compound Clip. You can apply your effects to the Compound Clip, and it will effect everything inside the CC equally.

yes, i'm familiar with that option. i'm more so talking about a wide variety of footage all broken up into various segments, each effected differently throughout the video. is there a better way to do this? do most people add effects afterwards (after effects, motion)? is there a suggested method to editing video and adding effects?

Effects are almost always done after the final edit.
Occasionally the edit will be tweaked to accommodate issues with the effects.

Rough cut, then trim it up, then color grade, then effects, then audio.
Those last three often overlap, just trying to keep it simple.
