2010 MBP and FCPX? was created by Spayne
What kind of a FCPX project can myacbook handle?

Specs: Core2Duo 2.4ghz
16GB ram
Momentus XT 500GB hybrid drive
And the newest OS

I would be doing mostly music videos for indipendant artists if that makes a difference.

I've seen a regular older (unsure of of year) white MacBook (non-pro edition) handle 720p ProRes so yours should be ok but you'll be waiting on the machine as you edit. I suggest transcoding to Proxy first. Are you charging for music videos?

I am not charging yet, i am a newbie for lack of better term.

A music producer and a lot of the artists I know need/want videos so i figured it would be a nother way to make some money.

Plus i've always been interested in video production.

If you're doing Music Video work you may be challenged in some multicam situations with just a Core2Duo. Yes, ProRes Proxy would help but you might be cutting it close in some cases. Rendering some FX would be slow. Encoding the final results to H.264 would be slow.

What about a core i5 imac with 4gb of ram?

Processors better but the ram is significantly less.

RAM is cheap. 4gm ram is going to be a very serious problem. If you buy such an iMac it would be pointless not to add ram to at least 8gb or better, 16gb. We're talking spending around $90 to $180 for the extra ram give or take.
