Sorry this is double posted, I put it in the wrong category but don't have a way to delete the other post in the Film Looks and Effects section.
I have a talking head that needs to move across the screen from right to left and back again to the right. I have been using Transform to make the movement but I am not getting an smooth move. Now the talking head sways side to side some during the movement and that makes the Transform even stranger looking. Since you are not able to change the movement to either linear or curve in Transform I thought I would try suing Alex's Smooth Move effect. I have tried to use it but I guess I am not getting it, not sure what I am doing. First I am not able to move the figure all the way across the screen to the left. Also I am not sure how I can determine the percentage of the Start and End slides. I do know where I want to start and stop the movement but don't get how I translate that into the Start and End sliders. Any help would be appreciated.

The trick is to put the playhead near the beginning of the clip when you set the start position, start rotation, and scale start, but then set it near the end when you set the corresponding end positions. Otherwise you can't rely on what you see when doing the settings. I just drag the numbers in the Inspector to change them. You can also type in numbers.
The Scale Curve start and end percent has to to with the total clip. If you set the scale start to 15% and the scale end to 70%, then the clip will hold still for 15% of the clip duration, perform the entire move you have set by the 70% point, then hold for the final 30%. If you set the start to 0 then the move starts at the beginning of the clip. A start percent of 30 and end percent of 65 would make the move happen faster with longer holds at the start and end.
The nice part is that if you're working with still images, you can change the clip duration and the percentages still hold. And I always choose Ease Both on all the Curve settings, but you don't have to.
Hope this helps.
