Problems duplicating events and projects

I am trying to duplicate a project so that I can shift it to a friend's computer. I choose 'Duplicate Project' and when the box comes up, I choose the second option: duplicate project and referenced events. However, what actually gets copied over to the external hard drive is not the media files from the events, but rather soimply an alias pointing towards the event. So when the drive is plugged into my friends computer he's getting a whole bunch of missing files.

This also happens if I try to duplicate the event.

Any suggestions?

I am using FCPX 10.0.07

I did this once, turns out the original files were also alias's, it was something weird like that. Could that be the case as well?

Media management took me a while to grasp and I'm still learning about it. I suggest the GEM iBooks about FCPX as they are really useful. I just got them and I've learned a lot and will continue to learn more as I read them again and again.

Simply copy the Event and Project at finder level. I do this all the time. Works without fail.
FCP X it too unreliable to do this in the app itself.

Once you duplicated the referenced events, before you disconnect anything, use the Organize Event files function to copy the media into the event. Doing it at the finder level will l create projects and events will identical IDs, which will confuse FCP.

This is true but if you never mount them at the same time you will not have any issues.

I do this all the time. I have mirrors of my work in different states of Australia and there are NO issues at all.
Go forth and multiply.

I ran the 'organise files' command on all the events that made up the project that i was trying to duplicate - but the same thing happened. Instead of copying the media files in the event, it just gives me a bunch of aliases.

Would the 'organise project' command be of any use? I haven't tried this yet because it says it copies all the media files into the project - which didn't sound like something I should do.

You should get the copy message when you try to organize the event files. And yes, that is exactly what you want to do to replace the aliases in the event. For you the duplicate event with aliases is worthless. Are you sure you're running the organize function and not consolidate?
