High QUality Media folder file sizes

Hello,

Forgive me if this is a question with an obvious answer- I have looked around and cant' find an explanation I understand.

I have been importing video of interviews I have been conducting, often up to 90 mins long, and the original media files are in the range of 15gb. But I'm also getting a folder called 'High Quality Media', and the same videos are also stored here, but sometimes up to 90gb in size- so one video is taking up more than 100gb...

Is this right? Have I got my import settings wrong? Do I need both original and high quality- is there a difference in the quality of the video?

Any advice is greatly received.

Thanks,

Tom

That's correct if you check on optimized media when you imported it.

Thanks a lot Tom.

Could I bother you for one more piece of advice?

How much better is the optimised media compared with original and proxy? Is it worth me investing in a lot more storage or is the quality difference minimal?

I'm using a Canon Vixia HFS100 and wonder if any improvements of the optimised files would be lost because of the limitations of the camera itself.

Thanks again,

Tom

Proxy isn't go to do anything for you. Optimized media is very beneficial if you're doing a lot of effects work or heavy color correction.
