Hi I just have this question. Let's say I wanted to just add music to my clip. I don't want to add the whole music. I just wanted to add a certain part of that music. Is there a way for me to edit the music? Somebody told me a few years back that you could use adobe audition. As much as possible I don't want to use adobe audition. Is there another program that I could use to edit music? Can edit music in final cut pro as well? thanks

You can edit music in FCP, but it is primarily a video editing application. If you're not editing video as well you might want to look at a dedicated audio application like Logic or start with the free GarageBand that comes on your Mac.

Select a range in the music clip in the Browser, "Q" to make it a connected clip in the timeline, that easy.
You can chop up your audio/music clips in FCPX all you want, as easily as any DAW. But as Tom says, if you want to do complex sound engineering, yes, you'll want a DAW.

What kind of editing are you wanting to do? Adobe Audition may be more than you need.

I really don't see why you would need any other software to just cut up music. It's extremely easy in FCPX. We do it all the time.

Same answer as Ronny. I don't use anything but FCPX. Whether it be sweetening of lav mice from H4N, camera sound, or music that i chop up.

Apple just released Logic Pro X. That's good enough to handle the job. Well I just plan to cut a certain portioin of music that I need for my clip. Thanks for your replies.

Airmax,
If all you are doing is cutting music clips, length to fit, you really, really do not need a DAW (Logic Pro, Audition, ProTools…) Like everyone is saying, you can change length within FCPX. You can do a fair amount of additional manipulation as well. If you want to create and record a multi-track rock band (insert music style here) original music score then you might need a DAW. Even GarageBand may be enough if you just need to record a few tracks.
Hope this helps, Greg
