How to minimize rendering time

Good morning all,
I do long form documentary video using Fcpx, When we deliver 1st copy, client request some minor changes,
Then we have to Re render whole things for over 16 hours,,... Back and forth many times...
Sometime just change a title, then we have to rendering it all over again.. Not very efficient, and waste energy.

My question is --
Is there have any update master file method ? Instead of rendering whole clips again and again?

Something like before in analog world, we can insert portion of re-edit video onto master tape?

Thanks in advance

Well as you can push ProRes 10 generations without loss, simply import the master file back in to FCP X and drop your changed bits from your master sequence over the top then re export.

Replied by Chen on topic How to minimize rendering time
Yes, that is what I did, take advantage of digital no loss quality, go generation to next generation,
But again, it still require Hugh amount of rendering master output,,
In cpmoressor 4, I can set in and out , but it is not replacement, (keep other video intacted,, )

Any other options welcome please

Turn off background rendering. Only render on export (share) as that seems to be GPU assisted and much faster.

Rendering speed is obviously dependent on CPU and GPU so, not knowing the specs on your system, maybe it's time for a new computer.

Is your master file ProRes? Weird that it would take this long to export. What machine specs are you running?

I'm outputting 1 hour documentaries in under an hour with a MacPro from 2007.

How do you deliver your viewing copy to the client? As a ProRes Master File or as H.264 or DVD?

Exporting as H.264, MP4 or any long-gop format from the timeline can be extremely slow (depending on your system). Like Seanus said exporting as ProRes should be realtime or faster. I think the time you lose is in creating the viewing file for the client, not the master file.

There is no "update file" feature in any NLE nor in any conversion app. And even back in the analog world when we inserted a modified edit back into a 2" or 1" master tape we still had to make a new client viewing DVD from the master tape, which also took more time than just inserting the edit.

While I think of this: if you deliver your viewing copies on DVD there is an option in DVDSP that lets you replace the master file by the new one, and DVDSP will only re-encode the VOB for that part of the master that has been modified (choose "re-use" in the Build menu).
