Right way to store material on computer was created by briesmas
Hi,
I'm wondering what would be the right way to store material from camera on computer outside FCP X. Usually I load my Sony FS100 material directly (via import) into FCP X right after I've done with the shooting. But now I have plenty of material on my camera's memory cards which I don't want to be imported into FCP yet, since I would be doing editing at the very end of the year and I don't want it to take computer's memory space. But I have to empty the memory cards so that I can use them for other projects. I reckon storing to external drive could be a good option but how it is done without using FCP X?

Hi Briesmas,
there is a good way to do it using FCPX! In the import window, you can create archives. This copies the whole content of a memory card to your hard-disk. The archive can later be accessed just like a camera (using the import window again).
While not in use you can copy the archive to another drive or folder - if you want to use it later, just copy it back to it's default place.
Hope this helps!

I love the archive function. I sometimes wish I could "re" archive footage for longer term storage, but after deleting clips I know I don't want.
