I was doing a Demo for a advertising agency and it was almost finish, it was 2PM and I was going to show the demo at 3PM. I have a problem with one image that I dint like it was to shaky so I try to stabilize and my computer shut down, when I try to open the event it docent open the event is corrupted, so I try the back up and it's also corrupted. I try to fix the problem with Digital Rebellion Pro Maintenance Tools Project Repair with no luck it's to corrupted to fix.
So I try to open only my project and it open so I am not that worry because I have all my media so I duplicate project with used clip only that create a new event and then I re-link everything and it is OK for most of it, my problem is that I have many many many ....... Compound clips and those are associate with my corrupted event so there is no way to open or repair or fix so I have to redo those editing again thanks God I did have a MP4 that I send my client to used as reference.
This is my story maybe some one know haw to fix the Compound clips problem or there should be in a coming software update a way to fix this.

Have a happy weekend.

Hi Ricky,

You did all the right things trying to solve the problem. Having many compound clips inside an edit is, and probably will remain, one of the most frequent causes of FCPX crashing and file corruption.

Great you have been able to recreate a new Event just from your Project file. This means you are very familiar with how FCPX works. But since all CCs are now only stored inside the Event this also means that when your Event gets corrupted you also lose every CC you have created inside this Event. Event media files can easily be restored by relinking, which you have done. But there is no way to get back Compound Clips when your Event gets lost. This is still a weak point is working with CCs.

Now I have had a similar experience with a super large Event that refused to re-open after a crash. I thought the Event had become corrupted, did all the things you can try to fix it but to no avail. It was late in the evening, and before going home I decided to launch the Event once more. FCPX launched but nothing happened. I left everything running overnight and when I came back the next morning I saw the Event had opened and was perfectly working again. Just to say that FCPX sometimes can restore its entire database after a crash, but this can take a (very) long time depending on how complex the Events and Projects are.

Have a nice weekend.

P.S. don't forget to send me that screenshot of your Music browser.

I just saw this after my previous reply. Do you mean the Project will not open anymore either?

Close FCPX.
Open the folder that contains your FCPX Project.
Delete the CurrentVersion.fcpproject file for the corrupted project.
Open the Backup folder. Rename the Backup file to "CurrentVersion.fcpproject" and place it instead of the project file you have deleted.
Launch FCPX.

If this still does not open your Project:

- Close FCPX
- In Finder go to your Project folder
- Duplicate your entire Project folder to another drive and disconnect the drive (just for safety)
- Trash the contents of your Render Files folders and try opening the Project again.

Thanks Ronny for all the help, I try also what you told me but it didn't work.
The strange thing is that all the files were corrupted even the one that I save friday in another drive (CurrentVersion.fcpproject and back up).
It was a demo so the worst part to recreate was done friday that I have the project.
I told my client that I con go with him to do the presentation because I know the company so well. Jejeje I have to laugh but it was now fun.
Ronny, I use disk images for all my project (event/project)could this be the problem.
Have you use Backups for Final Cut Pro, Darren Roark in creative cow forum recommend the app.

Thanks again Roonny for the help, I still have to send the screenshot of my Music browser but it is empty at the top and bottom, I will send it tomorrow.
Happy end of the weekend.

Hi Ricky,

We don't use sparse disc images in our workflow, but I know other people who do this without any issues. So I don't think disc images are the cause of your problem. Something must have gone wrong when you did the last-minute stabilization, that's why I thought it could be a corrupt render file. It's a very good practice to regularly delete render files in FCPX as well as in any other NLE.

It's a rather strange and certainly exceptional experience you have had, I'm sorry to hear that. But the weirdest things can happen with any hard- or software and that's why I agree a good a backup strategy is really important for everyone.

At the post houses I run we use ProVersioner from Digital rebellion as a backup solution for FCPX and I must say it does a very decent job. You can find more information here:

www.fcp.co/final-cut-pro/news/820-win-on...nalcutpro-7-and-fcpx

I have read about Backups and I know a couple of people who use it. They are very satisfied with how the app works, and especially with the great support provided by its maker, Nicholas Pisaro.

He has written a very helpful white paper on different backup strategies that is certainly worth reading:

You can find more information about Backups here:

Have a great end of the weekend!

Try copying your event/project onto a sparsebundle image. Keep it ejected. Launch FCPX. And launch the image afterwards. This is in case you get no warning about a corrupt event/project, but rather have FCP X waiting forever to open it.

Thanks for the tip Nick, I did have the warning.
I did have a Mp4 of the demo that I send to the client so I did the demo again from scratch.
From that day I purchase the app Backups for Final Cut Pro.
