Hello,
Is there a way of correcting the fish eye effect from GoPro footage using FCPX?
When working in After Effects I use the Optics Compensation effect which works well. I was just wondering if there was something similar in FCPX which would help me avoid using AE.
I know about Crumplepop's Fisheye Fixer but was looking for something free or built into FCPX.
Thanks.

It's not free, but Photoshop CS6 has a pretty amazing Fisheye corrector. I believe it will work on video footage as well. You can render it out using Photoshop's timeline.

Again it's not free but there is the plugin PROLENS from Pixel Film Studio which has a filter called ProGo which will do what you want. Plus you get a heap of other useful tools as well.

This one from FCPEffects is not free also but it's the least expensive that I've found (with their discount code, it comes to ~$22). I just bought it for a recent project and it works for what I need. Check out the link below for a quick video.

I know you didn't want comments on Fisheye Fixer from CrumplePop, but it is on sale tonight for like 29.00. 40% off coupon. I thought if anyone else was going through this post they might like to know.

Is there a fisheye filter in FCPX that lets you do inverse effects? Or a pinch filter? That may work.

One can make a Fisheye fixer filter in Motion for FCPX. I believe Alex4D mentions how to do this in a Moviola Webinar he did a while back. The webinar is $3 to view though.

Alex4D notes the webinar here

Stating
The final effect that I make in the webinar corrects the kind of fish-eye distortion that some wide angle lenses can add to footage. I show how it corrects narrow, medium and wide angle GoPro footage.
The price of the webinar has dropped since then. It's $3 to stream and $10 to download (no longer $15 download only).
