Lens Flare Transition Issue

I'm having issues with a title. I added the Lens Flare transition to a title and towards the end of the transition the background goes to black. Since the title usually has a black background that covered the clip i used blend mode to get ride of it. It works fine, until I add the transition, then the black returns.

Why are you using a blend mode with a title template? That should not be needed. How does a black solid get introduced into a title template?

I'm using blend mode on the Shimmer Title because if I don't use subtract the black background it comes with covers my video clip I want to place a title on.

Is that a 3rd party title template? Stupid Raisins, perhaps? Title templates shouldn't show the black backgrounds at all. Is this one you made yourself?

Nope, it comes with FCPX. Which is why I don't understand why it works this way.

Only "Shimmer" Title template I see is one from Stupid Raisins. This must be a third party product.

The Lens Flare transition is built to be used on full screen video not titles. That is true of a number of transitions.

Many Apple-supplied transitions are designed to work between full-screen clips, not on connected clips with transparency.

Lens Flare is an example of one of these.

Oh, right, don't put Effets on Titles. HA!

But if you want the Effect to move across, or effect both the title and the video together, you have two choices.

1 - Place both in a Compound Clip, apply the effect to the CC.
2 - Use an Adjustment Layer , and apply the effect to the AL clip.

Thanks for the advice guys. I'm going to try using a compound clip or a adjustment layer when I return to the office later and see if that fixs my issue.

This question is about 3 years late since this is how old this topic is. I opened up an old project from 2013 so that's why this is relative to the very same issue I have today. I'm trying to open this project with the lens flare transition applied and the project will not even open before FCPX crashes. (10.2.3) Is there any way, whatsoever, to disable that transition so I can open up FCPX and delete the part of the timeline where that stupid effect is causing issues? It worked just fine 3 years ago but FCX hates the project with that effect in it. I can't even keep the project timeline open long enough to delete or disable that part of the timeline either. Any suggestions? Help!
