FCPX messes with my levels when I import music...and I don't want it to.

I have imported a song to use as the music track for a video and the sound is off. Looking at the track on the timeline I can see two sets of levels. the bright green set and a more translucent set behind it with higher more dynamic levels. I am assuming those are the original and the brighter green levels are what FCPX has done to the song. How do I go back to the original levels?
Thanks
Ryan

Switch off reference waveforms in preferences if you wish.

The lighter waveforms are the "Reference Waveforms", exaggerated representations to use when you adjust the levels too low to read the actual waveforms. It is only a reference, not anything actual, don't worry.
