FCP Sluggish - Possible to retain Compound Clip edits when breaking apart? Desperate for help was created by jSantella99
First Id like to say thank you for all the help I have received from Ben B, and everyone else here on FCP
I'd be screwed without everyones help
I have a multicam edited almost entirely by placing it inside of a compound clip and the editing the compound clip , which is the top level of the project.
Problem is I just learned how much of a strain on my system this is. I have 16 gigs of ram, use event manager to only load one project at a time, and am using proxy media, but I still get the beach ball of death, constantly
I am almost completely finished but Its taking forever to finish because of this
Is there anyway I can keep all my edits that I made by breaking apart the compound clip?
Or is there another way I could go about fixing this?
I have a ridiculous amount of audio and opacity keyframe edits made to the compound clip, as well as connected clips for picture in picture and room tone, etc
So its not an option for me to start over , but I cant figure out how to get out of this bad setup
Any advice would be greatly appreciated, and I'd love to help out anyone I can, so please feel free to ask me for any advice, Im no novice, I edit almost full time, and have taken every final cut pro x online training course available, so I am fairly knowledgeable, but I started this project a long time ago when I was still learning, and really screwed up because I didn't realize how drastic of a performance drop it is to work this way
Thank you all again for your time, Please let me know If I can be of any help to anyone

What is the specific purpose of putting the Multicam clip inside of a Compound clip?
What Mac model and GPU are you running, out of curiosity?

Thank you so much, AGAIN! you're so generous with your time and the genuine effort you make to help people
It was a rookie mistake, I had put the multicam inside a compound clip so I could master the audio of the overall multicam, due to alternating audio sources,
The problem is I already did all of the editing to the compound clip, including keyframing opacity , volume, and using room tone, picture in picture overlays, and titles as connected clips to the CC,
After researching all I could find, I feel like I'm probably stuck with this situation because the amount of editing I had to do for this client was so specific, cutting out every little stutter he made, and I cant imagine starting over
I really appreciate the response, I cant thank you enough,

Did you create proxy media? If you have space on your hard drive then I would just create proxy media for all of your events and then switch playback to proxy. I know this helped make playback smoother on a multi-cam clip I was editing with 14 different angles the other day.

Thank you for the advice
Yes I did create and use proxy media for all the angles in the multicam
I believe the problem is that I placed the multicam into a compound clip,
and did alot of editing to the compound clip , keyframes, j and l cut, audio effects and keyframes, as well as connected clips for room tone and picture in picture, etc
Ben B has pointed out that placing a multicam inside a compound clip can cause performances drop, and to avoid whenever possible
So I am trying to figure out how to get out of this editing scenario without losing all the work I did, because none of the edits are made to the multicam, only to the CC clip containing it
thank you for your help, I feel like this is an impossible situation to fix
