Cinemagraphs and SliceX

I just played with this a little bit and it's super easy. I don't know much about cinemagraphs and they seemed rather complicated the way they were explained in an article about a month ago. But using SliceX in FCPX I was able to do a few simple tests and they worked really well.

If you have SliceX give it a shot. I didn't try it with Mocha tracking yet, but it seems like that could enable even more creative options.

Can you post an example? I'd love to see what folks are doing with SliceX!

I literally thought of this today and made one crappy cinemagraph, it's not really something I would consider worth showing off as I just used existing footage to test it out.

I've got a few ideas for some cinemagraphs that I'm gonna try to shoot this week, I'll post it then.

But yeah, SliceX... I'm really excited to see how much of an impact this plugin has with editors. So many possibilities. It can be applied to so many other plugins. Like that FordeeTV strobe plugin. Just mask an object and then apply the effect. I mean, you can literally mask any object and apply an effect.

I haven't done it yet since I haven't upgraded. I haven't found a need to yet but I will when the need fits. However, my guess is to take a frame (or export a still) of the clip you want to use and layer that on top (as the still plate) of the full clip with the motion & make it the same clip duration. Then use SliceX to create a tracked mask of the motion, invert the mask to show just the motion, copy effects from bottom layer & paste effects to the top layer, and then delete the effect from the bottom layer. Correct me if I'm wrong.

Yeah... great... no pressure.

I actually have quite a few ideas, I just have to shoot them to see if they work.
