De-Flicker Filter or Plug In? was created by Mike Petty
Hey kids...
I shot some footage on a 5D Mk III yesterday in a Hospital Emergency Department...where there is a computer monitor of some sort every couple of feet. After looking at the footage I am getting a lot of flicker on the computer monitors. I have shots that have 5 or 6 monitors in frame. Some flicker a little, some a lot.
Are there any filters, plugs or techniques to knock down some of this flicker in FCPX? I am pretty sure there is nothing you can do in camera so post seems to be the only option. As I recall the Flicker filter in FCP7 used to work fairly well (or at least take some of the edge off)...what do we do now?
Thanks for any input.

You can adjust the camera to not pick that up. It is a discrepancy between the shutter speed/frame rate the the refresh rate of a TV screen or computer monitor.
There is no magic plugin that will automatically remove monitor flicker in a shot. That de-flicker you refer to was for removing the flickering of an entire frame due to interlace issues, not a section of the frame.
I remember adjusting my old Canon GL-1 to not pick up TV screen flicker, but I've not shot anything that has a TV screen or computer monitor in it in so many years. I'll assume today's cameras can adjust the same way.
