Should audio roles that are disabled in the timeline Index NOT be heard in the exported file? Or must one always use the 'export roles as multitrack QT'? I just want to export video with my mixed track, all others are disabled, but are heard in the exported file.

When you say "disabled," do you mean the disabled clips are grey or they just get darker? Like below?

If you are unchecking the roles in timeline index, you are only disabling playback of those roles in the timeline. If you really want to exclude a role from export for a regular old QT, you need to select all the clips with that role under the "Clips" section of the timeline index and hit V (to disable). See below.

Hopefully the roles you are disabling aren't as ambiguous as "Video" or "Audio." If the role name is unique, you can search for the role name in the timeline and the clips you want to disable should show up.

Replied by Gretta on topic disabled roles still export

thanks so much. I didn't realize that disabled in TL Index was just for playback. I will continue to use roles as multitrack QT export. (but thanks to the excellent QTPro, I just deleted the soundtrack on the exported file, and replaced it with the mix.)

You are welcome. For multitrack QT, you can actually just disable the roles you don't want. You only really have to do what I outlined if you want a flat audio/video QT file.
