I've an iMac 2011 i7 with a M4 SSD 128gb, 3TB Segate Barracuda XT, 16GB of ram and a Radeon HD 6970 with 1GB, so i need a external raid system!

I use the system for my D800 big photos had FCPX editing with the files of the D800 and Pana GH-2.

i like the g-tech 4TB raid Thunderbolt:

www.g-technology.com/products/g-raid-thunderbolt

i think that the thunderbolt connection is the unique way to expand the imac because the FW800 is slower and the solution to convert the thunderbolt to USB3 is more expensive...

in addition to the g-tech there also Lacie and WD... and promise but this is out of budget for me...

what do you think? Any other solutions?

thx

There are lots of raid devices that support eSata. They are cheaper than pure Thunderbolt raid systems. Lacie has a thunderbolt to eSata device for about $200. I went with the eSata hub because I already had a RAID device. It works well enough for my (hobby) use. iMac -> Lacie eSata hub -> OWC Mercury Elite Pro Qx2

I don't know how this compares speed wise.

eSATA is second to T'bolt. T'bolt is mega fast, untouchable. But I'd say USB 3.0 or eSATA on a budget.

THANKS!

in principle i look for an e-sata raid enclosure but i need 200€ for the lacie converter that is the difference between the thunderbolt raid and the esata raid enclosure...

Stupid imac, with no usb3 or esata port!!

but i love it!! :woohoo:
