Rebuilding an Event from a HD fail or accidental deletion of media

I am just experimenting with workflows and Media management in FCP X and thought about how to recover the edit if the Event drive fails or media is accidentally deleted. Forewarned is Forearmed and all that!

I created a simple event, changed clip names, keyword clips etc and cut a short sequence.
I then deleted the media from the Original media folder to create offline clips.

I then mounted the archived folders (from a C300) and reimported the clips. My thinking was then to 'relink'
and go on my way....but....

Although X say it's imported the clips, none appear in the Original media folder for that event.
X goes through the motions but will not import back into the original event.
I'm sure I'm being a bit dull but what am I overlooking?

(PS. To restore my event, I created a new event, imported the clips into that and then relinked, organised back to the original event)

Did you use the reimport from camera function? Is your importing preference set to copy files into the event?

I'm with Tom on this one. This is one of the huge advantages to creating Camera Archives of your cards. If anything goes wrong, File > Import > Reimport From Camera Archive, poof, saved! Good call Tom!
