ERROR: FCPX Detected A Corrupt Database [Anyone Else?] was created by cinemaloha
Hello FCP.co members,
I got the following two prompts after using the Promise Pegasus R6 to edit from. Anyone else have this problem with the R6 or other external storage? It recovered just fine but I'm worried when editing a future client project and it doesn't recover. I just got the Pegasus R6 and wanted to test it out on a non-paid project before working on a paid project.
System Specs:
Late-2012 iMac 3.4Ghz Core i7, 32GB RAM, 2GB VRAM, 3GB Fusion Drive (2.6GB Free), Pegasus R6 12TB (9.6GB Free), FCPX 10.0.8, OSX 10.8.3.
FCPX Specs:
56 Minutes rough cut (only) in timeline, 126GB Original Media in Pegasus R6, Projects & Event in Pegasus R6, Cleared preferences/repaired disk permissions/verified any software update/restarted iMac before starting my rough cutting.
Thoughts or experiences....anyone??? Thanks in advance!

I have an R6 and I store my Projects on it. I have yet to have a database corruption. (Going to go find some wood to knock on now)

Just curious....what's your workflow like? How long have you been using the R6? Thanks! (Make sure you knock on real wood, not the fake stuff.)

We've had the R6 (18TB) since January when we moved from an old MacPro/LaCi 4Big eSATA to a new 24" iMac. We're still transitioning from FCPX.
Not sure what kind of detail you want on workflow. We shoot on a mix of 5D MkII, EOS 1DC and C300. When I get footage in I copy it to a folder on the R6. Then I make mirrored backup copies on a pair of bare 3.5" SATA drives in a pair of USB3 docks. Then when I ingest the footage I copy the footage to the event folders on the R6 (rather than referencing it). So, I've got a fair bit of footage duplication. Periodically I delete the camera archives from the R6 to free space (always reconfirming that I've got them double-stored first). I back up the completed projects to the same pairs of bare SATA drives, and then eventually to LTO tape.
I keep a folder called "FCP X Job Folders" on the R6 where I store exports, distribution encodes, AE and Motion projects and renders, scripts, music, graphics etc.

That was plenty of details. Thanks for your reply. I wanted to see how others are using the R6 in terms of media management. I also duplicate my media to other drives. What kind of LTO system do you have for archiving?

I just encountered a weird behavior with the R6 when I was shutting down my iMac. FCPX was already closed so I went in the finder and clicked the eject button next to the drive name and I get a red light on my fourth drive bay with all other drives with the blue light and the power button orange.
I launched the Promise Utility app and the 4th drive shows up as dead. I tried to power off the R6 with the power button but nothing happened so I just unplugged it and plugged it back in and booted up again. The 4th bay is back to a blue light and the Promise Utility app shows all is good, except that it detected an abnormal shutdown in the last operation. I don't know if this box I received is a bad one but I already have a replacement on the way because this one had scratches near the power button (could be an indicator of a refurb). I'm now running Media Patrol to verify the hard drive platters are ok on all six drives. Just sharing my experience with the R6 and I hope it's an isolated case with this one unit.

I like using Disk Warrior, too.

Ben: In your opinion, is Disk Warrior better for RAID5 setups? I haven't researched that app yet so I'm not familiar. Thanks!
