Startdisk full error while moving files

I was in the process of moving project and event to an external hard drive to free up some space on my mac. Sometimes I have backed up the files before doing this, but I didnt this time. Now I got the message that the startdisk is full , and it has frozen on me, I've got the option of quitting final cut or continuing, but either way
I cant really do anything with it because its frozen.

It had been transferring for a while so I have no idea how much of the files has been reorganized and if I will be able to move it over like intended without making a mess.

Could anyone please help me out? Is it safe to quit final cut and reopen it and try again? or how do I go about it?

Thanks.

Glad you have it corrected. You didn't specify how you were moving your projects and events, but this should be done preferably within FCPX to keep its' database updated.

I've had this issue too, it's really weird. I would duplicate a project and then it would just runaway wild with my startup disk space. I have an SSD so it wasn't a lot, but it was still about 30GB and that was way bigger than the file.

I forced FCPX to quit, and then it wouldn't open and would just hang. So I uninstalled it and re-downloaded from the app store. I had to do this a few times, but eventually it went back to normal... Seems like a bug.

Now, instead of duplicating a project, I just create a compound clip, add it to a new timeline, then break apart the clip, it's waaay faster that way.
