I Have a Problem.. was created by jgutta23
A couple of weeks ago, I tried to back-up my FCP project. I moved the orginal clips to my external Hard Drive and deleted everything that was in my events folder. Big mistake. Now when I linked my Hard Drive, and try to relink the missing files FCP can't find the missing clips. Is there anything I can do to fix this? In hindsight I shouldn't have deleted the clips in the event folder and I should've moved the event and project folder to my external hard drive as well. I only moved the original clips to my hard drive. Any help will be greatly appreciated.

Move it back to the event folder (the original location) from the external drive then try relinking again. If it works, use FCPX to move the event to the external drive.

Try just Draging the clips from the Finder in the Event. Chances are big FCPX Will automatically relink.

Did you create a folder with project name before moving the files?

I had a similar issue last week. I remembered the original file folder structure so I re-created it. Most of the files relinked, however, there were a dozen or so files that needed to be manually be found and replaced. How many clips are you using in the project? Just in case you have to manually go back and replace them, here's my process:

(Note: This is painstaking, time consuming but repetitive.)

1. Import all clips (again).
2. Identify the clip name and type it in the search field in Event Browser. The missing file and the newly imported file should show up.
3. Highlight the missing clip in the timeline, press shift+F 'To Reveal in Event Browser'.
4. The previous step should highlight the In & Out point in the Event Browser. Create new In & Out points on the newly imported clip. Cntrl+Y to Show Skimmer Info, then hover cursor over In/Out points to get timecodes so you know where to place In/Out puts in newly imported clip.
5. Before pressing D (for replace edit), copy the attributes of the missing file clip in the timeline to paste to the new clip after the replace edit.

Hope this makes sense and helps you.

Good luck!
