I'm considering getting myself a Panasonic HDC SD900 camcorder but when I google its compatibility with FCP X I get a bunch of links trying to sell me a convertor app. in the guise of "helpful" forum posts.

However on this forum I've read a few posts which seem to me to say that FCP X should be able to import AVCHD .mts 1080/60p files directly from the camera?

Can someone clear this up for me please? Was it a problem with FCP that's gone away with FCP X maybe?

thanks

Julian

If the media is properly handled FCP can import 1080p60 directly and work with it in native H.264 or optimized form.

Thanks Tom - could you please expand a little on "properly handled"? Or what would be the wrong way to do it?

cheers

Opening up the card and taking the video files out of would be the wrong way to do it. You have to archive the entire folder structure, which contains only a single format of media. Don't know what variations of format this camera can do.

Hi, I use that combo and it works perfect. When I shal import the files, I normaly use to put the SD card directly in to my macpro - to get the fastest transfere of the files.

Hi Tom, according the the pdf manual I got from Panasonic's site this camera records at 1080/50p, 1080/50i (AVCHD) and what Panasonic calls "iFrame" which is MPEG-4 and what Panasonic recommend is used for Apple's iMovie. They don't seem to provide any numbers for the MP4

So far the only other info I can see is:

Recording mode and transfer rate:
[1080/50p]; Approx. 28 Mbps (VBR) [HA]; Approx. 17 Mbps (VBR)
[HG]; Approx. 13 Mbps (VBR)
[HX]; Approx. 9 Mbps (VBR)
[HE]; Approx. 5 Mbps (VBR)
[iFrame]; Approx. 28 Mbps (VBR)
