- Absence of Quality is the essence of squareness.
By the way in my world I tend to get asked on what I edit. Freelancing or taking over jobs from other editors.
This all reminds me a little bit of the story I heard last night from a friend who went to the shops to buy a TV with another friend.
This friend of a friend is Korean and they were standing in front of this Japanese TV and the Korean woman went bananas. It was something to do with some war that happened before she was even born. Completly irrational. Genetics perhaps.
I really believe that FCP X is the next best thing. Like didn´t people who were riding horses hate their neighbours who had bought a car! So come on all ye fanboy haters
I really hope that Resolve becomes the NLE to end all NLE editors. It has the potential to level the playing field. Because we should not even be having this discussion here!
There is not a lot of money in Berlin but there is a lot of cheap space. Co.working is all the rage here at the moment. So install Resolve, buy some desks and get some editors to edit on their NLE of choice, maybe on even their own hardware and every one is happy?

Most of the time this work resolves around After Effects, it is such an important, and widely used tool, that many workflows are based around it's use.
Often the core of the production company is based around very few people. Basically running producer/director roles and freelancing production/post roles out on a per job basis.
When it comes to post, they tends to have editing skills on Avid, Premeire, and/or FCP, but only ever tend to use 1 of them in their strict workflow. They freelance out to better spend their time on the business side of the things and they occasionally have limited AE skills.
As mentioned before this can mean different freelancers working on previous work. So they need to have everything done on the same tools. They want to be able to go back into an NLE their selfs to make little changes rather than paying out for them if and when needed. They need to know that if a graphics artist who done the previous version of and given health and safety video is currently unavailable they can go to the next guy on their books and give him all the previous work as a base.
In some worlds what you use to edit on is very important. The production companies are right to have needs, they save them money and that's the reason they have the needs. Not because of snobbery.
In general, in my world of small corporate production companies, I have always found the Premiere is king. Software/hardware combination is cheap and they can always find freelancers. Hopefully iMac/FCPX combined hardware/software costs could potentially change that.
For graphics everything is centred around AE until it goes into 3d. That's when everything opens up. These guys don't know how to go in and make changes anyway. As long as they have the elements that can be adjusted in AE or re-used at a later date, that's fine.
I think if resolve could work smoothly with AE they would be onto a massive winner.
I also think Resolve could take off pretty big, it could fit into the above workflows very well.

I really need to make a pilgrimage to Bamburg some day.
If you are in Berlin I recommend this place...

ps the workflow in the above video is perhaps not all that far removed from post production
pps that is an interesting point with respect to AE

Apple and Black Magic are doing great things and I like where all of this is headed.

Do other programs force you to spend your time learning them improperly?

By properly, I mean learning the program inside and out. Having a proper understanding of the program.

Yes. All Adobe products, as it takes more than one human lifetime to uncover all the hidden crap in that bloated mess.

But I did go to an intensive photoshop course last year and the program drove me crazy.
4 Weeks of my life…
It was like learning about a house which was originally a bungalow, then they raised the roof, added a second story, conservatory porch and a garden shed.
One of the things I like about FCP X is that it is though out from start to finish.
Sometimes I think it is like moving from a Sony Walk man with push buttons to a iPod with that little wheel.
I admire software agnostics but if my tool is not sexy it gets in the way of my work.
Just can not go there. I can not deal with those big clunky buttons and those twisted haunted houses.

I'd like to copy/paste a comment I just made concerning one of FCP.co's recent product promo posts on the home page. The comment was about some folks saying FCP X had no precene at NAB Show 2013.
"Motu, Tools On Air, Mac Capture, Blackmagic Design, AJA Video Systems, Matrox, Atomos, Vision Research (Phantom cameras), CatDV, Cantemo, and countless others were talking FCP X compatibility and support. Who says FCP X wasn't anywhere? The blind and deaf guys?"
If someone was there and claimed FCP X wasn't anywhere to be found, or was rare to hear about, they must have purposefully trying to NOT see FCP X at NAB Show 2013, are in very serious denial, or brainwashed by Adobe's childish rants at their press conference which was full of out right lies. Seriously...

Hi Ben, it was good to see You at NAB!
My personal experience was that I saw even more FCP X's running on various booths on the last day Thursday, than I saw on Monday. Various vendors were playing it "safe" at start?
