Hey everyone i have just recently invested in a Mac book Pro and FCP X....
I had a plan to attend a course in FCPX at a local TAFE/school however they cancelled it due to lack of numbers.
What do people think of Larry Jordan's FCPX training package? I know I could just attempt to teach myself and research but It is not easy.
Im mainly editing GoPro footage! I have been using a windows computer in the past so a lot of this is new to me. I want to meet some like minded people..
what would be the best way to increase my knowledge in FCP x and make some nice little edits!
Thanks in advance for any advice!!
Cheers Justin

Hi Justin
I have done both the Steve Martin Ripple Training and the Larry Jordan one. Whilst they are both excellent I prefer Larry Jordan. I just have the feeling that his training is more thought out. It probably all takes a little longer but he like a good editor has a time and place for every thing. And yes beware he does have garden gnomes in there.
Before buying I would suggest that you look at some of the free online videos from these or similar guys. It is weird but speaking for myself there are some voices I can not hear. Even how some one laughs can be a big turn off. Some kind of personality thingy!
I think the advantage of paying for training like this is that you get what you pay for. A solid instruction from professionals who have been at it for decades.
best of luck
Paul

I have to jump in here and say that my online training from Class on Demand
www.classondemand.net/media/apple-training/fcpx.aspx
is darn good. As is my FCPX book.
I do stand to gain from this message, but I'll stick in anyway.

Love the break down. What gets covered point by point. Very clear what you are up to
In contrast to some other more fluffy variations out there!
I´ve kind of gone to town on training at this point but if I was on the Market your training would be right up there for me.

I find Ripple Training and macProVideo to be the two best. Larry's is really nice, but there are some technical things he doesn't get in to. He is a very good presenter, but his technical knowledge isn't what it is at Ripple or mPV. I've found Lynda.com to be disappointing. But very one will have their own subjective opinions on these.
Ripple has my buddies Steve and Mark who are both very experienced and technically knowledgeable. Best Motion training around. At mPV Micheal Whol was actually one of the original developers of Final Cut Pro, and is very technically knowledgeable. mPV has extra courses that no one else has (shameless self promotion).
The official Apple Authorized Training text book (with DVD of lesson files) is hands-on, step by step, and comprehensive. The "Second Edition" is up to date. This is the book we use in the official Apple trainings. There is an advanced book, also. With the errata from Peachpit's web page for this book, it is up to date, also.

Thanks for the advice seems the decision is a little harder now that you have both promoted your own training hehe..

Im just getting the basics at the moment I will still invest in a good training package as I will spend some time and really want to know how to use it well!!
Any other tips please let me know!!

To get a feel for Ripple training, check their free MacBreak studio, a couple of years a ago they also had a bunch of episodes on editing techniques in general.

You can subscribe to it via iTunes.
