Replace edits with effects

I am creating a template in the timeline that I may use to use for multiple subjects, just replace each placeholder with images of new talent. I have assigned effects to the placeholder clips but when I replace the video, the effects are gone. Is there a way to keep the effects in tact and just replace the video. I know I can Copy/Paste Attributes but it seems strange that the new video would wipe away all assigned effects. I have even tried to Audition clips but when I change clips, the effects are also gone. Am I the only one trying to do this?

Thanks Ben, I appreciate the adjustment layer suggestion but I am using overlapping "Tokyo Split" effects on fashion models. Your adjustment layer will surely come to great use in the future! Thanks
