Best way to create simple split track master

Folks:

Looking to create a simple 2-channel split track master: dialog on 1, everything else on two. What's the best way to export this in FCPX?

Thanks!

My guess would be Roles. Assign dialog a role, assign everything else another role. Export File or Master file and select Roles as Multitrack Quicktime Movie.

Yep. That seems to work. In the multitrack export options pane, it's a little confusing as it seems you cannot assign roles to a specific track, just to mono, stereo or surround. But that's just because it's not a well designed interface. It terms out the order of roles, from top to bottom, corresponds to tracks. So the top role ends up being track 1, the next lower role corresponds to track 2, etc.

So: while it could be a bit clearer, it all works just fine.

Thanks.

Cool. I agree the interface could be better. Drop some feedback to apple and suggest they look at how X2Pro does it. Gives you a seperate pane with a list of Roles which you can drag to re-order. I'll do the same. :-)

It's pretty limited. Look at how X2Pro does it. Very simple but gives the user more control over Role to track/channel assignment.

Is that what screendor was referring to? Would love to look at X2Pro, but probably won't pay $149 to find out. The screen shot of the interface looks very simple, kind of a white version of FCP's roles interface.

My "poor design" comment referred to FCPX's roles assignment/export window. Not XtoPro. Never used it. I will say that Event Manager X from the same company is terrific (and simple).

Also, note that I am not bashing FCPX. In general, I quite like it. Much better than legacy 7.

I got that. X2Pro is actually from different developer than Event Manager. Creates AAF's for protools and a couple other DAW's. Very simple window to assign Role to Track order.

Just so the proper Devs get the proper credit Event Manager X is Intellegent Assistant and x2pro is Marquis Broadcast.
