Hi
I am pretty much a newbie.
I have a video that was shoot in 1080p 24fs, I have done all my edits in FCPX. I am trying to find out proper work flow to get to an authored dvd.
I have exported the video at 10 bit uncompressed and then imported to dvdsp. The problem is the quality sucks on the dvd. Can anyone lead me in the correct direction of the best way to export from FCPX?
Should I goto compressor then dvdsp?
Please help me get this to the best quality.

thanks Jeff

Yes, you want to go to Compressor and down rez it to SD first. DVDSP by itself just uses default settings and won't do the best job.

Ok so in fcp > send to compressor the complete project. But what settings? When I try and import 1080 sharing files dvdsp gives me errors saying Incompatible Format?

Lower your expectations. The quality is going to suck. Uncompressed 1080p should look stunning. Standard def MPEG-2 will not, not by a long way.

Your reply does not help.
I'm trying to understand work flow.
When I use fcpx to create a dvd and pop in my player it looks great. When I import to dvdsp and create a dvd it looks like shit.
I understand that a dvd is a down grade in quality. Thats not the problem.
Trying to learn dvdsp to author a dvd that is being mass produced.

this is just the way that I do it. Right or wrong....it works for me.

I export a 1080 master file...(because I want one)...

When done I import it into Compressor and transcode it to the dvd presets.

I then import the mpeg 2 and aac audio file to DVDSP assets.

It's not true hi def by no means after burning....but looks pretty good and all of my customers have been very happy with it.

I have 6 music videos each about 3 min long. I have b roll before each one. Should I build all this in 1 timeline in fcp or should I export each clip to compressor then build it in dvdsp.
My goal is an authored dvd 5 for mass replication. This will need chapters etc..

I'd put them all into one FCP X timeilne, make Chapter Markers, export as one Master File ProRes, and take that into Compressor.

Bens way is perfect as well. I just like to have separate 1080p files of what I'm doing. (Weddings). However his way is more streamlined.

It's all pretty easy once ya get the hang of it.

One problem I see is if I build the complete timeline in fcpx and send to compressor with chapter markers, when I import to dvdsp I need to have a dvd home page with chapters. On the templates in dvdsp seems to require that i drag each song in to the button area for each song.

In the button area or home page of the dvd I was going to have 11 buttons b roll before each song so 5 b roll buttons plus the 6 songs themselves.

Hope I don't sound to much like a dumb ass here.
Like I stated before I am new at all of this. I am an audio engineer for a living.

DVDSP can make the chapter menus for you automatically with the chapter markers. I have some old workflow videos about how this is done from the FCP 7 days. But, its all the same thing today once you export from FCP X.
Go to THIS PAGE and on the left hand column look for FREE Legacy Tutorials: DVD Studio Pro part 1, DVD Studio Pro part 2, DVD Studio Pro part 3. They'll even explain getting the optimum quality in Compressor. Having DVDSP automate chapter menus and using stories is worth the time. They're free.
