Multicam issue

my friend is editing a show, shot on 5 cameras and he is using FCPX
its a 2,5 hour show, and he did proxies of all the files, he got one 2,5 hour file, and the other cameras is in small 15-20 minutes segments
when he edit in FCPX as multicam, he got the spinning ball 10-30 secs every time he makes an edit
fist he had put the files on the internal drive (he thought that was the thing to do) and I told him that was a bad idea, and then he put them on his TB drive, but still the same
he will bring the files to me tomorrow, but I'm curios if there is general problems with very long files, or very long timelines?

he uses a newer iMac with 24GB RAM, so it should be enough machine power

How long is each segment?

What specific iMac (CPU and GPU)?

What camera was this shot on, what is the codec of the originals before making proxies?

One time i had the same issue in FCP7, but the media is converted to ProRes LT. Then i re-converted to ProRes 422.

Converting to LT then to 422 will lose image data.

In FCP X we work very different. You can always work offline with proxies very easily.

cant say what was wrong, but after moving, tweaking and relinking I managed to get it running smoothly :ohmy:

Crazy bug. Did you reported to Apple about this issue?

dont think its a bug, think he did not setup the multicam workflow on the right way, cant blame Apple for that
