What's the most recommended way to convert FCPX footage to PAL based file format?

What do you mean by "FCPX Footage"? That could be almost anything.

Best way of standards converting anything really is by using Compressor if you have it.

PAL is no file format but a video-standard ... ;)

in case you have to create a disk, keep in mind that most/all PAL-DVD players support playback of NTSC disks … so, no need for standards-conversion.

aside the commercial Compressor, Seanus had mentioned before, the free tool Jes Deinterlacer does a superb job in standard conversions.

..... just to mention: PAL is a SDef format; '25fps' is not PAL .... ;)

Make a custom PAL preset in Compressor, add it to your Share menu in FCP X.

I haven't tested it completely but it is quite easy to copy and paste a timeline into a new project that has a PAL frame rate, giving you a few option on how the frames get converted in the info window in FCP X,

PAL (Phase Alternating Line) is much more than a frame rate. If you just want to change to 25fps then that's fine. Do it in FCP X.
If you need to convert to PAL then do it in Compressor.

Remember PAL is only relevant for standard definition video not High Definition. Same goes for NTSC. (Never Twice Same Color) ;)

Yeah, but you can still do that in fCP X, there is a PAL SD option if you don't have compressor.

Don't forget the hardware route. Its not the cheapest route (by far) but results are pretty impressive.

Just FYI, I've converted between the two when I did SD video almost weekly for many years back in the day. Compressor always did a super great job. Never noticed any image quality degradation (well, it was only SD, after all) I still have those custom presets in my current Share menu, although I've not used them in a long time.

Many ways to get the job done, no right or wrong way, just the way that works for you.
