Color correct each clip?

In most movies there are a lot of clips. That´s also the reality for my upcomming footages.

Do i need to color correct each 800 clips one by one? Each clip might need different color corrections, so I´m afraid I need to edit them all.

Have downloaded the THE RT COLOR BALANCE EFFECT from Ripple Training.

How is the Magic Bullet?

If you want to get your project as good as possible, you have to correct them all.

If that's to much for you I can give you my wife's email, she'll do it for you for a price... She has been correcting every single cut of movies and tv commercials using DaVinci (and now with Assimilate Scratch, too) for the last 12 years... :D

Tempting, but I want to do it all by my self.

Crap.. so I can´t just edit one clip, save my presets and then add it to all the clips. Will the result be that bad?

How about the Magic bullet looks? It looks very easy, just add an effect.

Many of your clips will have a similar color palette, for those you can adjust one to your liking, then copy its color attributes & paste them on the similar clips. You can even select multiple clips at once & click paste, thus applying the color from your first adjusted clip. You can also utilize FCPX's built in Color Match feature . After applying a blanket treatment to multiple clips minor tweaking will probably be necessary to get things perfect.

If you're going for an overall look, FCPX has many of those settings in the presets, but you will still have to do some tweaking.

Yes on a feature it's a fair amount of work, that's why features usually hire several people just to complete the task, or a special shop devoted to the craft. But you'll gain an overall appreciation to this crucial component, which will definitely empower your filmmaking.

Yep. Color them all. TrixTrax has the answer though. Copy/Paste attributes. As far as Magic Bullet goes it gives you many many color variations from subtle to something i would probably never use! However even the subtle ones make an impact on the right footage. Usually I tweak them as well. However I don't use Magic Bullet at all right now due to the FCPX 10.0.6 update. Soooo... I have used a lot of the built in presets and the MLooks package which is nice as well. Magic bullet just seems more polished to me and I miss it. You could also use one of the many "adjustment layers" that could go over several clips at once.

Thats comforting to hear. But I´ll embrace my self for a lot of work.

Thanks for your great answers!

I don´t know what I´d do without you!

There is a reason professional colorists get paid a lot, and take a very long time to grade a film. It is not a speedy job.

Definitely copy and paste colour attributes is the way to go on similar clips at least you can put them all within the ballpark before you begin grading each clip from scratch. It's the way I work, and it works very well.

Of all the parts of the process i find grading my favorite. I love getting the edit locked down then making many pots of coffee and systematically selecting footage, opening the exposure tab, the saturation tab and watching the clay (footage) become something with a shape and a tone and a purpose. Hope you learn to love the process, its genuinely way cool:)

If you want to get that serious about grading/correction, I strongly recommend Reslove LITE. Ripple Training has an amazingly great course for it, too. It's a lot of hours of training, but you don't need to do much of it to learn the basics. Will open a whole universe of possibilities to you. Very FCPXML friendly, too.

Also, the "Color Correction Handbook" by Alexis Van Hurkman is pretty much a color grader's bible.
