Fire & Fire Transitions

Hello guys, I was just wondering if, firstly, anyone can recommend a decent place to get hold of some fire effects for a no budget production? Some chromakey fire and stuff like that.

Secondly, would it be possible to make a "fire transition", or does such a thing already exist? For example using an animation of fire / flames as a transition from one scene to another? How could this be done?

Thanks in advance for any input.

You mean like flames traveling across the screen to reveal the next clips? Interesting...

Yeah, something like that. I imagine it must be possible but being new to FCP X I have yet to figure out how!

If one could find the flames, one could whip up a simple "flames wipe" transition in Motion to publish to FCP X.

If you do a search for "fcpx flame transition" you will find a bunch of guys showing hot to do it on youtube. I would post the links (I just watched 3 of them), but Peter doesn't seem too keen about us posting links.

One of the youtube kids even provides a link to the alpha channel flame effects to overlay. Free online.

Also another search for "video flame transitions" provides more free overlays.

Thanks for the info guys, but when I do that exact search on youtube it doesn't come up with anything in terms of transitions made of fire or flames, just various effects and fire related stuff but nothing specifically of use. I am not sure why I am getting different results with the same search.

I guess though as Ben says, if I can get some firey stuff I can run it through motion (although I'd have to learn that, but no problem).

Which leads me to the point of obtaining stock footage. Well, the thing is, if I can find the right clips I wouldn't mind to pay a bit out of my own pocket even though the project is no budget, but anything I've found (via youtube, google, anything else) so far has things in packages and the single clips I would like are in separate packages etc. So I don't really want to waste money on a bunch of packages just to get like 3 clips I want and 20 or more others that I don't need. Anyone know a place that does separate single clips and has anything decent? I'm looking for like a fire / flame wall background, a flame burst for a transition as the two priorities and if possible maybe a foreground of flames as well and possibly a fire / flame FRAME, like a moving burning picture frame around the main window / video.

So to be honest really all I am looking for is up to 4 clips at most. So the packages available everywhere aren't really working for me. But I wouldn't mind to fork out a little bit for the right stuff if I can get 4 individual clips for example that are of use.

I'm all for posting links, but what i don't want is people either posting single URLs on their own or even worse plugging their own work/tutorials without even an explanation.

Three Youtube videos is fine

In the facility I work in, we use elements from Action Essentials all the time.
They're of high quality and ready for keying.
There are a few fire clips that could work as transitions without any further manipulation. I would suggest, however, that you use a clip or a combination of clips and make your transitions inside Motion. Like Ben suggested in a previous post- this will yield the best looking effects, and nobody will be able to recognize the source of your elements.

I'm using some cilps from ArtBeats at the moment. It will actually turn in to a Motion tutorial on their site in a week or so.
