Hi All.
FCP7 user migrating to X here...
I have a couple of questions - any advice welcome, please.
I'm synching 2 cameras together and then cutting down an hour interview to around 2 mins. In FCP7, I ran 2 layers locked together after synching to a slate and just gradually cut and pasted down to 2 mins.
It seems I can't do this in X, so I synched the cams and then created a compound clip, which I'm now using to cut down accordingly.
Is this the best way to do it? At the moment, I'm crossing my fingers and hoping I can take the 2 min cutdown of compound clips and then break them apart to cut between the 2 angles when I need to. Or would I be better off using the multicam function?
I need to work out a solid workflow that I can also share with another editor - ie, send projects to a guy over in Australia, for him to then work on them, and then for a new project to come back and reference the media over here. I have sent him identical AVCHD files to reference/reconnect projects against.
One other quick question. I was quite shocked to see the size of the render files in the project file on my Macbook Pro, so I moved the projects to my FW800 scratch disk to reduce the risk of eating my limited 750 Gigs of SSD. If I optimise/transcode the AVCHD to ProRes, should I expect to see those render files reduce, because ProRes won't need so much rendering? And am I right in thinking I can optimise/transcode the AVCHD further down the line in my edit and the newly transcoded ProRes files will still cross-reference against the original AVCHD files I sent over to Australia? I hope so...
Sorry for so many questions, but I'm sure many of you have been here before...
Many thanks in advance,
Ben.

I transcode to ProRes in import, and just forget fooling with AVCHD after that.
It is not a good idea to put Events and Projects on an OS drive, use a secondary drive.
I'd use multiclip functions for what you're trying to do. You can cut it up and trim it up all you want once it is in a Project timeline.
