Problem with pal DVCPRO 50 in fcpx when i export it as dvcpro 50 codec was created by tiesakaipmelas
Hello, i have problem with pal dvcpro50 footage in fcpx sharing with fcp7. When i import Dvcpro50 to fcpx, footage in event shows that the fields changed to upper ones (by default pal dvcpro is even field in fcp7), when i put the footage to timeline, it creates SD pal 756x576 anamorphic project 25i. Footage is with upper fields in projects (as i understand it shifts because all projects uses proress settings and all proress is with upper fields). When i export project to dvcpro50 option the mess starts. because the fields changed. The broadcast monitor shows that fields are in wrong order when i open exported file in fcp7 dvcpro50 pal setting sequence. When i try to fix it in fcp7 with shift field filter it stays with wrong fields anyway. When i export file from fcpx as proress option and import to fcp7 dvcpro50 sequence, it shows wrong field order, but it fixable with field shit filter. So my question would be, does anyone had the same issue and how they fixed. I need to edit dvcpro50 pal project on fcpx and share it with other editor who works on fcp7. I need to know, how to export fcpx project to the same dvcpro50 format with correct field order, that other editor could open it without any fixing and work with it in his dvcpro50 setting sequence. Thanks.

This is incorrect ProRes can be either field first. It's not specifically upper.
There are separate settings in FCP for PAL either DV or not. DV50 I believe uses the DV PAL field order. PAL SD is upper, PAL DV is lower I believe. Which project properties are you using?

As i mentioned before - footage is dvcpro50 pal. When you drop the footage to the sequence of fcp7 it takes all footage settings, so native sequence settings on fcp7 is:
Frame size: 720x576 Anamorphic
Field dominance: Even/lower
Editing timebase: 25
QT video settings: DVCPRO50 pal
When i import same footage to fcpx and allow settings for project on first dropped footage, it creates project with 720x576 Anamorphic pal 25i settings. One more thing, on fcp7 footage field dominance is lower, on fcpx upper. So by default i editing with upper fields on fcpx. When i export footage from fcpx with dvcpro50 option, the same file shows lower field dominance in fcp7 dvcpro50 timeline when imported later, but it has problem with fields - shows footage with wrong fields on broadcast monitor and you can't fix it with field shit filter. I tried to change field order on fcpx from upper to lower and export it as dvcpro50 option, then to import to fcp7. Fcp7 showed wrong fields, but there was possibility to put field shift filter and fix it. So my question - how can i export dvcpro50 pal footage from fcpx that another editor would be able to edit it without any fixing, cause files are big and there are no time option to re render it if shift field filter applied.

I understand what you're saying. I can't test this as I have no DV50 PAL footage. I offered you a suggestion. Did you try it? Can you confirm what the specs of the project are? Can you change them? You should be able to as the timebase is not changing. There are two DV PAL specs. Make sure your project is using the correct one. Which one is it using?

Yes, i know - there are two options on PAL SD: 720x576 DV Anamorphic and 720x576 Anamorphic. The correct one as fcpx says and uses is 720x576 Anamorphic 25i. I tried 720x576 DV Anamorphic before, the same problem with fields. Because i didn't found any answers, i asked in here. The strange thing is: the footage straight from panasonic studio camera dvcpro50 pal imported to fcpx changes field dominance from lower to upper, but if i import footage to fcp7 > export as source to dvcpro50 pal and after import to fcpx, video file stays with lower field dominance in fcpx. I need to do a lot of testing to figure out the right way... And it should be so simple in fcpx, but it's not.

Would it be possible to upload a small piece of the DV50 PAL footage somewhere?

Ok, i think apple should fix this bug. This is the download link for two files: one is straight from camera, another one is from fcp7 (i imported it to fcp7 and exported with current codec.) So we have two the same clips which mediainfo shows as the same settings.
www.wetransfer.com/downloads/9c880fba77e...0130317130746/d58e47
But in reality everything is different. When you import both files to event of fcpx, one file from camera shows in inspector it is with upper fields, another one from fcp7 shows correct lower field. When you put file from cam to project by default it takes 720x576 pal anamorphic settings, on playback it shows wrong fields, when you change it to lower - everything looks ok but you need to render footage. When you import file from fcp7 to project, it takes by default 720x576 pal dv anamorphic settings and plays correctly with right fields on monitor. So we need to export those both files to DVCPRO50 codec and share it with another editor which will be working on fcp7. This is where all bad things happens - we export files with dvcpro50 settings, import them to fcp7 and you can see straight away, that fcp7 export file looks grate, but the file from camera loses quality a little bit. The files should be the same, but they are not. So this is unpleasunt bug. If someone has any ideas for fixing - tell me

The footage from FCP7 has no interlacing.
If I change the camera material to lower and edit it into a new project, the project takes the new properties of the clip and does not require rendering, but the field order is reversed.

Very strange, cause footage from fcp7 is interlaced with lower field. About footage from camera - i made the same discovery Tom by changing fields order before importing to project, but footage looks ok on broadcast monitor just in fcpx, but when you export it to DVCPRO50 codec and import to fcp7, it loses quality - that's the main issue and i dont know how to solve it, the option to export to proress and import to fcp7 and import to dvcpro50 timeline requires rendering. The file is very large, over hour, so rendering takes too long. So they require proper dvcpro50.

"the option to export to proress and import to fcp7 and import to dvcpro50 timeline requires rendering."
Import to a ProRes timeline and then export to DVCPRO50 on final output.

Tom, i do know that workaround, but this is not the option for me cause exporting from proress to dvcpro50 on fcp7 takes around an hour. As i mentioned - the time is big factor for me. It's very disappointing, that apple have such bugs and not fixing them for pro sector.
