Jagged Edges/Aliasing Render Issues Downconverting from HD to SD in FCPX

Hi Guys - I've finally made the jump from FCP7 to FCPX and have had a pleasant experience so far until now. I do a lot of HD to SD down-conversions after my editing is complete. As you can see from the screenshots below, I'm seeing aliasing issues on my rendered footage.

FCP7 (perfect) : i.imgur.com/mJo9F7d.jpg

FCPX (aliasing) : i.imgur.com/kbO8Pqa.jpg

On FCP7 I would simply go to the Sequence settings and change the Field Dominance setting to NONE and continue with exporting the HD timeline to Compressor and using the 90 min DVD setting and my rendered footage would look great!

I cannot seem to find a way to do this in FCPX. I know you can set the clips' Field Dominance "Override" setting to None Set, Upper Field, Lower Field and Progressive. I've tried all 4 options and none seem to fix the issue. Even when I open Compressor and view the exported timeline from FCPX, it states that it is Upper Level eventhough I've changed the clips to the other 3 settings.

Any ideas how to fix this? Am I missing something? Is there something similiar to FCP7's way?

Thanks.

Using clipwrap to import may also fix it...

Hate to revive an old thread but oh my goodness, I'm having a terrible time trying to down rez hd to sd for dvd. There's so much online that I've been sifting through for 2 days now. I still can't find a definitive answer, can anybody help?

I've tried Compressor, AME, Exporting to different resolutions etc. Still get those jagged edges.

Try to convert your raw video into Prores then import them into your fcpx to see if that may help? And here is a blog that I found in another forum . There is detailed workflow in this article , help this may help you.Good luck with that !

scaling interlaced video is always a bit of a problem, because the scaling reveals the edges of the 2 different fields
basically you have 2 options ( at least;)

1. deinterlace the HD material, for example Compressor does a good job,
and then scale down to SD, this will look more filmic , you reduce the framerate to 25 , proabily what you are used to when setting tcp 7 file dominace to none, which is not realy correct, but if it works....
this workflow here might even give you better results.

2.) if you want to keep the interlaced look for the SD Video you can try" MPEG Streamclip"
its a free software and has a setting "better downscaling " which gives very good results . it does sometime do a little color shift because of the different Colorspace REC 709 against REC 601 for SD . you must judge yourself what you like best. (for PAL you must als crop Left & right by 9 pixels)

the second option is more likely if you output on a DVD for a TV set . if your final program is watched on a computer the first deinterlace option is your best friend . ( since a progressive computer monitor doesn't display fields and gives you those jagged lines.

But my footage is not interlaced, it's progressive.
