Hi:

I'm adding still photos to a timeline project. They are on the 2nd level (attached to the base clip) so I think that's what you call the secondary storyline (still learning the new terminology for X)... anyway, I have 2 stills connected and on the 2nd one, I tried keyframing a movement of the still photo, where the zoomed in pic moves across the screen from left to right. After key framing, upon reviewing the timeline, the still doesn't move at all (as if the keyframing never happened). Furthermore, after more attempts to re-do the key framing, my whole system freezes: my mouse still is moving across the screen, but no applications respond. I can't force quit anything, either. Clicking my mouse on anything is useless. I finally have to just push and hold in the power button on my Mac Pro to send it into a restart. Did all this twice and am finally going to bed. Will try again in the morning. Any advice? Hopefully my system can rest and I can figure out if this is a bug in FCPX.

I know certain file types of stills have caused issues in the past. I believe these are just JPEGs.

The term is "Connected Clip". You can take one or more Connected Clips and create a Secondary Storyline with them if you'd like.

Be sure your stills frame sizes are similar to your timeline frame size. If they're too large, you can get these sorts of issues.

I'm having to stretch the stills to fit the project. My project is set up as 1920x1080 and the still causing the issue has dimensions of 1600x1200. Is stretching them making them too large or does the issue come with the original dimensions not fitting the project settings?

Thanks for your feedback.

Model Name: Mac Pro
Model Identifier: MacPro5,1
Processor Name: Quad-Core Intel Xeon
Processor Speed: 2.8 GHz
Number of Processors: 1
Total Number of Cores: 4
L2 Cache (per Core): 256 KB
L3 Cache: 8 MB
Memory: 8 GB

OS: 10.7.5

Besides the 1TB drive that came with the computer, I also have another 1 TB internal drive and another 2 TB internal drive for storage. I have an external FW 500 GB for backup, along with an external FW 750 GB G-Drive and finally, an external USB 3 TB drive for Time Machine backups. The G-Drive has caused issues in the past with hanging up my system, but I got it replaced. I did eject it, turn it off and unplug it when this happened, just to see if that was the hang up, but to no avail.

Thanks, Tom, for your feedback.

That looks fine. Tells us about the stills. 8-bit RGB? What are the pixel dimensions.

Do the usual, trash prefs, repair permissions, reboot.

1600x1200 JPEG, RGB, 72-pixel/inch. I'm not sure if it's 8-bit. Just says, "RGB."

I can't see what would be causing this. You might try the same thing on a video clip as a test and see if it's happening there as well.

They're not the same aspect ratio. So to fill the video frame, something will have to be cut off. They should not "stretch", though. In the Inspector, bottom of the Video section, look at the Spacial Conform settings. Play with them. I'd set to either Fit or Fill, depending on what you want.
