Is it possible to take an Afters Effects template and create a clip with it in Premiere and then import it in Motion or FCPX for final editing.

Sure, just export the clip in a codec FCP X supports. Doesn't PPro support ProRes exports?

thanks - yes it does.

One other clarification related to my original question, I am planning to learn After Effects but I presume you cannot go directly from After Effects CS5 to FCPX or Motion.

Are there any good resources for learning purposes for After Effects and Premiere CS5?

Have you learned Motion yet?

macProVideo.com has some of the best training around, including PPro and AE, if you have a need for them.

I am going to make a start on it very soon, but wanted to know what the limitations were in a workflow that involves going from After Effects/Premiere to Motion/FCPX, beforehand so that I can make a more informed decision in terms of allocating my time which happens to be extremely stretched at the moment.

Since Motion is more integrated with FCP X and easier to learn, I'd start there. After you get some proficiency with it, and need more, then move on to AE and PPro. I'd also ask specifically what are you going to use AE and PPro for, exactly?

Going between FCPX/Motion and PPro/AE requires you use XML. That means you would want to get Xto7 to translate FCPXML to Adobe XML, and 7toX to translate Adobe XML to FCPXML.

Or you're just going to be sending baked-in ProRes files back and forth.

Either way, you won't be sending "templates" (i.e. "project files") between Apple and Adobe apps.

Well I have a short term goal and a long term goal.

The short term goal, is to be able the use 3rd party Templates and Transitions purchased via sites like www.motionVFX.com in my FCP X projects, and I would like to have the flexibility to incorporate AE 3rd party assets into my FCP X projects and I am not entirely clear on how one can go about it, and would be very grateful if you could kindly elaborate how I can do that please.

The long term goal is to be able to produce my own and also be able to modify the behaviour of 3rd party Templates and Transitions including AE templates/transitions for use in my FCP X projects.

I have purchased some courses from Larry Jordan on FCP X and Motion but was not sure if I also need to invest in AE and PPro courses as well for the short term goal and what the workflow is going to be to be able to achieve this..

You'll have to export ProRes QT movie files from AE. Not sure why you're not considering Motion. But, there you have it. From AE, export a movie file, import into FCP X.

thanks - Motion is at the top of my list and AE was not even on my list at first, but I have since come across some really neat 3rd party AE effects, and it's just that if there is an effect (transition/template/etc.) that I am not entirely sure how to reproduce in Motion and happens to be a third party AE effect, I wanted to have the flexibility to add that into my FCP X projects and was not clear on the workflow.
