Sound Library: Event vs iTunes was created by sirdavidabraham
Setting up a new MBPRO. I'm considering importing sound libraries as events instead of importing them into iTunes. Is this a dumb idea?

Ultimately whatever works best for you. I for one though have an event hat I always keep open that I have been slowly filling with production music, sound effects, etc. Most of my stuff is in iTunes...however i want to get it over to the Event for easier browsing and not having to sift through all of my regular type music.

I use iTunes, and sort them with custom genres and Playlists. The Playlists work super well. Avoids the stability problems when an FCP X Event gets too bloated. But it is still just personal taste.

Tried that approach and it was a nightmare. I have a LOT of SoundFX and it was totally bogging down FCP X. I keep all my SoundFX in a separate iTunes library but more often than not I'll just use spotlight to find the ones I'm after. SoundFx names tend to be pretty easy unlike music.

I would like the "Final Cut Pro Sound Effects" folder to be able to live on an automatically scanned external..(the same way Final Cut Events and Project do) this way external libraries would automatically show up in the music and sound browser.

I keep a "frequently used" sfx event open all the time. I like using iTunes playlists to browse playlists I've made, but there is, for me, a fairly big problem with the X audio browser. Anything you drag to an event or project get *copied* to the event folder, regardless of what your import preferences are set to. As I do not want media copied to my events, I can't really use iTunes.

iTunes playlists seem like a really good idea for SFX/regular stuff. Think we'll give it a go.
