Will "pre-render" speed up the final render?

Hi

I'm getting frustrated in rendering times with large projects.
I was wondering if it would be any good to render job even it's not fully edited. I've got a lot of spare time that MBP is on, but not in use. I could start rendering some projects while MBP is idle. These projects are not fully edited yet.

My question is...
Is there any speed benefit to final render if project is already rendered once before after applying some of the effects?

Thanks,
Tomi

If you make changes such as effects then render files are useless and will need to be recreated. If all you do is extend a clip by a few frames then only those extra frames need to be rendered.

On both my MacPro and MacBookPro I've found export times to be broadly similar when my sequence was rendered or not for most normal projects. The only times I've really benefited from pre-rendering was where there was lots of compositing (a 128 screen video wall comes to mind!).

Correct, export does not read render files. Also remember that you can set the idle time of background rendering. Set it to 10 minutes. Then when you're gone for at least that long background rendering will kick in.

My specific question is, are you rendering just because you can, for for better playback? If it is for playback, you can do other things that will help, too.
