Looking for recommendations in terms of monitoring solutions with X. Have used Matrox MXO Mini in the past with a Samsung HDMI monitor. However, wanted to switch to some 3 year old Apple Cinema Displays we have. What breakout boxes do you recommend to get high quality monitoring using an ACD?
BTW, these displays have mini display port connectors.
Also, right now working off a 2009 tower so no Thunderbolt. That said, we will be getting either a new tower when (if?) they come or the new iMac.
Thoughts? Experiences?

We had this issue about a year ago with a major system installation I did. The school was sent new Mini-Port monitors from Apple to use with Mac Pros, when they ordered the older DVI style monitors. Apple had a lot of trouble finding enough of the correct monitors to send us, because, at that time we could not find DVD to Mini-Port adapters. Maybe someone has come out with one since, but you need to find an adapter that goes FROM DVI TO Mini-port. OR find graphic cards with Mini-Port connectors. No need for any external breakout box or anything.

Thanks. Not a problem to find mini-display port to DVI adapters. Really, the question is about using an Apple Cinema Display for grading. I've read a lot of what Phillip Hodgetts has to say about how X handles video color space and I think the take away is, you don't really need to a broadcast monitor (and breakout box to make it work) for grading with X.
Most of our deliverables our for the web or for event projection. That said, grading that way seems a little bit like working without a net.
Thoughts?

In Theory, yes, Color Sync will work for the web. But I still see huge differences between my boradcast monitor and my 30" Cinema Display. Honestly, if you're going to the web, and you know how to check your scopes, you'll be fine.
OK, as for the adapters, you can find Mini-Display to DVI, but be careful, they only work one way. Be sure you're getting them going to right direction. That was a problem we had with the installation I had a year ago.
