How to sync HD with SD footage?!?

I have a mix of SD and HD footage I want to sync, the syncing process works great. Audio matches video so no problems there. The problem I'm having is that the synced compound clip it creates becomes a 480p SD video dimension, so all my HD footage gets letterboxed and cropped and when I drop the new synced clip into my HD timeline... it looks like a 480p clip within a 720 or 1080p timeline. If i transform it, the video gets distorted.

Anyone have any idea how to get random video sizes to sync in an HD timeline?

You're not supposed to sync multiple video files into a single compound clip. If you're making a multicam clip you can set custom properties to whatever standard video spec you want.
