How long? was created by surferrgirl
How long does it typically take to make a project thats about 2-4 minutes??

It seems to take me an extremely long time and I don't know if its because the clips I'm using are short or if it's something wrong with my software. I would think that it wouldn't take anymore than 6 hours and should take even less than that. When I was using Imovie it took no time at all to finish projects.

Am I doing something wrong?? Could it be the software? Or is this normal

Rule of thumb used to be to allow an hour per finished minute for the average talking head and B-roll video for a rush job.

Most people find they can work much faster in FCPX to finished product including titling, color correction, and effects for that type of program than in other applications.

So then basically either I'm doing something wrong or its something wrong with the software?

Basically. You just may not be up to speed with the software. How long have you been using it? Have you studied it thoroughly or received certified instruction (and not from an Apple store :;).

I've been using it less than a year now for about 10 months. I've watched multiple tutorials on it. I'm not really well versed in alot of the shortcuts but I'd like to think I know it well enough for it to not take THAT long. So basically I get it and understand it just fine I'm just not an expert at it.

So how long is it taking you to cut a two minute piece? Obviously yours isn't just talking heads and B-roll, probably lots of cuts, which does take quite a bit more time, both in the editing and in the finishing.

If I'm consistent with the editing and no interruptions I'd say about a day and yes there are A LOT of cuts and the clips are super short. At times though(very rarely) when I'm rendering the screen will glitch and my whole laptop screen will be full of glitchy colors and multiple screens. I'm thinking that there is either seriously something wrong with the software or my laptop.

That sounds like a hardware problem. Like something is failing in the graphics card. A day isn't bad for a heavy production. I'd be OK with that. A lot of shots means you have to deal with a lot of media.
