Hi.

I’m about to install my new external hard drive, and I was wondering if I have to trasnsfere all the events and project through FCPX or can I use Finder and copy it over. Then reformat the old so I don't get any dublicated files, events and so on.

All my original files is inside the FCPX folders so there’s no reference files.

Thanks for any help.

You can do it either way if you plan to delete the originals. But here's what I'd do to be safe.

Manually copy them over in the Finder, then use "Media Manager X" to hide the originals. Test out the new copies, make sure they work correctly. A million things can go wrong when copying files. It is rare, but you never know. Once you've verified the copies on the ext drive are find, then simply move the originals to the trash.

No need to reformat a drive, just delete the original FCP folders.

If you wanted to copy things inside of FCP X, nothing wrong with that, and would save you the step of hiding the originals. Six to one, half dozen to another. Just test the copies for integrity first.

Good, and thanks for the replay :)

As I wrote it's trom external to an other, so it-s easy to just unplug it fraom the mac, and test the copy. No need for Media Manager X.

Yes, I\ll do that for sure :)

I shall use that disc for some other things, so it's faster :)

As I have some Events and Project this will take time - that's way I asked if it was posibel to just copy them. I can then copy the entire content on Hard drive A over to Hard drive B.
