In my software, the music will randomly drain out and become EXTREMELY low quality.
How can I fix this?

In your "FCP X" software? What format is the music file?
Select it in the timeline, go to the Inspector, the audio tab, click the reset button (curled arrow top right). See if that helps.

Try a little harder, work it out.
You imported it, so you know where it came from?
Find the original file...
What extension is it?

The extension is the part of the file name that comes after the dot. It's a computer thing, not a Final Cut/Professional editing thing. If the file name is myfile.doc the extension is ".doc" or "doc" which often indicates the type of file.
You may have the display of file extensions turned off. I think that is standard on a Mac. So find the original file and select it (click on it). Hit ⌘I to get file info. Look at the section in the info window labeled General. It will tell you the file Kind. That may give a hint as to what is going on. Or not.
