best way to do a shorter version of a doco was created by keithwhite
Hi FCPXers
I've completed a 60-minute doco. The client wants about five minutes worth ( in three sections)
What's the best way to do this?
1. Disable the stuff I don't need and then Share?
2. Turn the sections I do need into compound clips and then . . . .? ( have little experience with compound clips )
3. ?????
any advice appreciated

Duplicate the Project. Delete what you don't want.
Or make compound clips of what you need, create a new Project, then from the Event Browser, drop them into the new Timeilne.

Definitely duplicate the project! Don't mess with your finished piece of work if its locked off.
Make sure to modify any compound clips so that they reference new parent media, to cope with Apple's stupid implementation of this behavior.
They really have it the wrong way around. Hopefully they fix it in an update.

Mark In and Out points in the project. Export it. Mark new In and Out points. Export that. Mark the third set of I/O and export that.

Thanks Tom, (and Ben and Shaunus)
Tom, should I export (share?) as master files, as I usually do? And then combine the three exports in a new F CP project?

I don't realize the three sections had to be combined. You only said he wanted three sections. Do it the compound clip way.
