Well here is a new one.
We received a DSLR card with footage. Not sure what model but it was from a Canon. I suspect a Rebel in some sort.
Anyway card popped in FCPX automatically opens it's Media Import Window up. Imported the footage straight into FCPX. Which it changes it's name to Date and Time as we know.
Here comes the kicker it plays fine in FCPX no matter on what machine... but as soon you open the file with Quicktime 10 and VLC there is no Audio!
Oh yeah the file Codec reads in FCPX as H.264, Linear PCM, Timecode where the original (not imported over the card into FCPX) only just H.264 and Linear PCM.
So I opened one of the files in Quicktime 7 since it is 1000000000 better then Quicktime 10.
Still no Audio but when you go to the Properties window. Yeah where is that in Quicktime 10 Apple??
It will show me under the Sound Track - Audio Settings:
Channel 1 Unknown
Channel 2 Unused
Changed channel 1 to left and channel 2 to right, BOOM! Audio is backed.
I find this interesting and pretty odd, I wonder what is going on in FCPX little head when it is importing footage from a DSLR card... :woohoo:
So heads up if your not getting any Audio outside FCPX (I only tested the above used Apps) from footage that was imported from a DSLR card keep that copy Quicktime 7.
