Single Frame View in Timeline? was created by einjahr
Hello,
I am new to this forum and also (maybe) new to FCP X, I used to work with Final
Cut Studio 7 and have bought a new 27'' iMac, which would be great for working with FCP X.
One reason, why I am not sure wether to switch or not is that when testing X I could not find a possibility to have a real frame-by-frame view in the timeline. I mean every single frame beeing represented by exactly one image - as it is common in the older versions when zooming to the max.
Is this frame-by-frame view not there or do you just have to do some special settings for it? It would be very necessary for me and I would appreciate a helpful reply a lot. Thanks and greetings from Austria!

FCP 7 was not frame by frame accurate thumbnails. In X it will depend (as it was in 7, also) on how close you're zoomed in.

well, in 7 as you can see on the sreenshot it is accurate, really frame by frame thumbnails. In X I could not get the same, although zooming in to the max. Any more details maybe?

I stand by my comments. Nothing else to say, that's how it works, sorry.
But what do you need the timeline thumbnails for, exactly? I've never seen anyone work that way.

Thanks for your fast comments, Ben.
I need it because I work with analog single-frame footage a a lot - I have to identify and remove single frames that do not fit in because of technical reasons during the shooting. And I am also starting to work with digital single frames now in a very precise manner - that's why the overview - like looking on the analog filmstrip - is so important for me.
I appreciate that you stand to your comment, I just could not prove it when I was testing X in this way for quite a bit. 7 does represent every single frame and X did not. Maybe somebody else has another experience to add - would be still very helpful for me.

FCP X if you zoom the the correct level gets close, but not exact. Still don't understand what exactly you're needs are, but that doesn't matter. If you need it, you need it.
